Breezaire WKSL 2200 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit
Breezaire WKSL 2200 Split Wine Cellar Cooling System
The Breezaire WKSL 2200 is a ductless split wine cellar cooling system designed for properly constructed and insulated wine cellars up to approximately 265 cubic feet. The system separates the evaporator and condenser into two modules, allowing the condenser to be installed away from the wine cellar for greater installation flexibility and reduced sound inside the cellar.
The WKSL 2200 uses Breezaire's Sentry III+ Digital Control System to provide selectable temperature control between 48°F and 63°F. The system also provides humidity management, with relative humidity generally maintained between 50% and 75%, depending on cellar and ambient conditions.
The split configuration allows the condenser to be positioned up to 50 feet from the wine cellar. Separating the condenser from the evaporator can help reduce operating noise within the cellar, while vibration-dampening features help minimize vibration in the wine storage environment.
The WKSL 2200 requires professional HVAC or refrigeration installation. Installation includes copper refrigerant-line connections, low-voltage control wiring, electrical connections, refrigerant charging, and system testing. Proper cellar construction, including adequate insulation, a vapor barrier, sealed doors, and appropriate condenser ventilation, is important for proper system performance.

- Durable Metal Cabinet: The WKSL 2200 includes a metal cabinet designed for long-term use.
- Professional Installation: The system requires installation by a qualified HVAC, air-conditioning, or refrigeration technician.
- Optional Bottle Probe: A Bottle Probe can measure the temperature of liquid inside a wine bottle rather than relying only on surrounding air temperature.
Installation Requirements
Wine Cellar Construction Considerations
The WKSL 2200 is designed for properly constructed wine cellars. The size and construction of the cellar can significantly affect cooling requirements and system performance.
- Insulation: Proper insulation should be used throughout the wine cellar.
- Vapor Barrier: A properly constructed vapor barrier is required.
- Sealed Doors: Cellar doors should be properly sealed to minimize air leakage.
- Glass Exposure: Glass doors and walls can increase the cooling load.
- Sun Exposure: Direct sunlight can increase the heat load placed on the cooling system.
- Air Leakage: Excessive air infiltration can increase cooling requirements.
- Cellar Shape and Height: Ceiling height and cellar configuration can affect system sizing.
Cellar Sizing
To estimate the volume of a wine cellar, multiply the length by the width by the height. For example, an 8 ft. × 6 ft. × 5.5 ft. cellar has a volume of approximately 264 cubic feet, which is within the WKSL 2200's stated capacity of up to 265 cubic feet under normal conditions.
Actual cooling requirements depend on more than cellar volume. Insulation quality, vapor-barrier construction, glass exposure, ambient temperature, sun exposure, door openings, air leakage, ceiling height, and cellar configuration can all affect the required cooling capacity.
Recommended Accessory
Breezaire Bottle Probe: The optional Bottle Probe measures the temperature of liquid inside a wine bottle rather than only the surrounding cellar air. This provides an additional method of monitoring actual wine temperature within the cellar.
