Breezaire WKSL Series — 1000 cu. ft. Cooling Unit (WKSL 4000) Overview
The WKSL 4000 is a split-system wine cellar cooling unit and a direct replacement for the WKS 4000. The WKSL Series separates the evaporator (installed inside the enclosure) and the condenser (mounted up to 50 feet away), making it ideal for properly constructed cellars that require remote venting. When installed correctly, the system provides a selectable temperature range of 48°F–63°F while maintaining 50%–75% relative humidity.
Key Points
- Direct replacement for the WKS 4000.
- Split system: evaporator module in the enclosure, condenser module up to 50 ft away.
- Selectable temperature: 48°F–63°F.
- Maintains relative humidity: 50%–75% (when installed in a proper enclosure).
Professional Installation Required
These systems require professional installation. A qualified air conditioning or refrigeration technician, equipped for compressor-based wine cooler systems, should perform setup. Installation notes include:
- Two copper tubes connect the evaporator and condenser modules.
- Power must be hard-wired to the units using a properly sized 110V AC electrical source.
- The system must be charged with refrigerant during installation.
- The WKSL series uses Breezaire’s rugged adjustable mechanical thermostat.
Humidity & Operation
By design, Breezaire cooling units maintain cellar humidity lower than the ambient relative humidity. Practical implications:
- In high ambient humidity, the unit will reduce enclosure humidity to desirable storage levels.
- In very low ambient humidity, the enclosure may not reach the desired relative humidity without added moisture.
- If extra moisture is needed, use slow, natural evaporation from a small porous water container. Do not use mechanical humidifiers.
Temperature & Placement
Performance notes and requirements:
- The unit is designed to cool approximately 25°F below the ambient temperature on the venting (condenser) side.
- Proper placement and ventilation of the condensing unit are critical. The condenser must have a constant supply of fresh air < 85°F.
- Installing the condenser in a confined or poorly ventilated area can prevent proper heat rejection and degrade performance—this is an installation issue, not a mechanical fault.
- If you have installation concerns or edge-case placements, contact us to discuss proper venting and placement.
Note: Because these systems are installation-sensitive, follow all manufacturer and technician guidance to ensure reliable operation and preserve warranty coverage.
Available in two models: the WKSL 2200 for wine cellars up to 265 cu. ft. and the WKSL 4000 for spaces up to 1,000 cu. ft.
Note: The WKSL Series is designed for installation by a qualified HVAC or refrigeration technician. Setup includes connecting the evaporator and condenser modules using copper tubing and low-voltage wiring, with power supplied from a properly sized 110V AC source. These systems must be charged with refrigerant during installation. Each unit features the Sentry III+ digital control system for accurate temperature and humidity management.

Breezaire Modifications
BLACK Series Cooling Units
BLACK Series units are special order and require 2–4 weeks for production. Once manufacturing has begun, returns or cancellations cannot be accepted.
This is a special-order modification and makes the unit non-returnable.

Upgrade: Cord Out the Back of the Unit
The standard Breezaire configuration places the power cord on the wine cellar side. If your installation requires the cord to exit into an adjacent space, you may upgrade to have the cord come out the back.
This modification is a special-order request and makes the unit non-returnable. A hole must be made in the back grill for cord placement. The cord will be located at the bottom right on the back of the unit.
Please Note: Adding this option may extend production and delivery by 3–4 weeks.

Optional Modification: Power Cord Out the Bottom Rear (WKL Series)
This option relocates the power cord to exit from the bottom rear of the unit. This is a special-order modification.

Optional Modification: Power Cord Out the Bottom Rear (WKCE 1060 & WKCE 2200)
This option relocates the power cord to the bottom rear of WKCE 1060 and WKCE 2200 units. This is a special-order modification.

Standard - Cord Out The Front
Modified - Cord Out The Bottom

Modified - Cord Out The Exhaust

Optional Modification: Hot Exhaust Air Up (WKCE Models)
If your installation requires top exhaust, you can add this optional modification. This directs hot exhaust air upward instead of out the rear. Adequate space for fresh air intake is still required. For example, wine cabinets must still have space behind them for proper airflow.
Please Note: Adding this option may extend production and delivery by 3–4 weeks.
This is a special-order modification and makes the unit non-returnable.
Standard - Hot Air Out Rear
Special Order - Hot Air Out Top (HAU)

Rear Drain Fitting
An optional rear drain fitting is available for installations requiring additional condensate control.

Optional Bottle Probe
The bottle probe is available for Breezaire WKL, WKE, and WKC Series units. It is highly recommended when the wine cellar is located in a warm area, as it allows the unit to regulate temperature based on the liquid temperature inside a bottle rather than the ambient air.
